Follow route 1 as far as Talara. At main junction in Talara continue straight ahead, signpost Acequias. Keep on the main road in the direction of Durcal. After passing through Durcal there is a dangerous junction - be careful as oncoming traffic turning onto the by-pass has right of way. Shortly after this there is a spring where you can refill water bottles. There is a plaque here erected by the local cycling club praising the purest water in the valley. Cross the bridge here and shortly after climbing the other side of the river turn left following signs for Albunuelas. The road passes under the motorway and then climbs gradually up to 850m. Shortly after the summit there is a viewing area with great views of the valley.
